No one likes mosquitoes, but they’re on their way. They can ruin a perfectly wonderful afternoon if the proper steps aren’t take to guarding against them. Now, standing water is where mosquitoes lay their eggs and a pool can be the perfect place if left untended. Let’s find out what you can do to minimize the mosquito population in your yard and pool.
Pool Covers Need to Be Emptied
Many pool covers will not be removed until May. They can collect a lot of water and that water is just going to sit there. This is going to become a big problem if you’re not careful. You see, standing water is where mosquitoes love to hang out and breed. So, if you have a pool cover that is covered in water, you need to clear it. Just think about the benefits of having less mosquitoes in your yard later in the season, and it will all be worth it.
Proper Pool Maintenance is Essential
Making sure that your chemical levels are in good shape is going to make all the difference for your mosquito population. The little pests can’t breed in water that is properly maintained because of the chlorine. You should also make sure that your filters are running properly once you open your pool. Remember to keep the water moving and the chemicals at good levels. Otherwise, your pool will become one giant mosquito nest and that sounds terrible. You should also make sure that your pool is clean and free of debris. In the event that you have a smaller kiddie pool as well, you will want to make sure that it gets dumped out once you’re finished letting the kids play in it. Do not allow standing water to be left out even for a night because it will haunt you in the morning.
